Toronto East General Hospital – A Destination for Health Care Excellence

Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH) is an award-winning, full service, University of Toronto-affiliated community teaching hospital that provides comprehensive care to a diverse urban population of nearly half a million people, representing over 45 cultural and linguistic groups. Each year, TEGH registers over 300,000 patient visits, delivers 3,400 babies and responds to over 61,000 emergency visits. For thousands of people throughout the GTA, Toronto East General is the community hospital of choice for specialized services in cardiology, thoracic surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, respiratory, urology, complex continuing care, oncology, paediatrics, and child and adolescent mental health. Reflected in our history is TEGH's commitment to superb clinical care, while never forgetting the human side of health care.

Building on Our Promise

At TEGH we believe that exemplary healthcare is the foundation of a vibrant urban community and have always promised the best for our patients. Today we are building on that promise. Proceeds from the Brazilian Carnival Ball will support The Destination for Health Care Excellence Campaign, a $60M private sector campaign in support of TEGH's $200M Capital Redevelopment Project.

Our Destination for Health Care Excellence Campaign, through the creation of a multi-storey Patient Care Centre, will ensure improved delivery of high quality care with a focus on infection control and a welcoming patient-focused environment. But the impact of the Campaign will go much further: the consolidation of all of our out-patient services and Centres of Excellence into a new state-of-the-art Patient Care Centre will establish a defined Destination for Health Care Excellence for East Toronto and beyond. This landmark facility will act as a central hub, a proverbial gateway to a health care system for the over 500,000 people TEGH serves in one of Toronto's most diverse and economically challenged communities. This Centre will also allow TEGH to further its leadership in establishing Centres of Clinical Excellence in Thoracic Surgery, Prolonged Ventilation Weaning and build on its strength as Toronto's most popular training ground for the next generation of Family Practice and Emergency Care physicians.
