SickKids Research Institute
Proceeds from the 2009 Brazilian Ball will be going towards research being conducted at the SickKids Research Institute, an institution that conducts more research than any other hospital in Canada. The research underway will further our knowledge into childhood diseases and will impact the health of children here in Toronto and children around the world. There are approximately 1,500 staff members involved in more than 1000 funded research projects. For over 50 years, the SickKids Research Institute has made discoveries that have impacted children everywhere. Roughly one-third of the Research Institute’s budget comes from generous community donors through SickKids Foundation.
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)
Far too many families refer to SickKids as their home away from home. This sentiment isn’t one of sadness as much as it is affection. When you think of what makes a home a home, the love and caring, the feeling of being safe and protected, the hugs and tears, you begin to appreciate how different SickKids is as a hospital. You see it truly is a home with one large family. Since 1875, SickKids has had one sole purpose, to improve the health of our children. Children are 25 per cent of our population, but they are 100 per cent of our future.
